Behind the Lens with Jac Lee

Photographer Jac Lee holds up a professional camera, blog interview

Behind the Lens is back and we're kicking it off with a bang, featuring Jac Lee - an incredible branding & wedding photographer, podcaster, puzzle brand founder, and so much more.

Jac brings a refreshing creative angle to her branding shoots, ensuring her clients have their main character moment, and her wedding photography is so stunning it sees her flying all over the world. As always, make sure to check out her gram(s) before diving into the interview below.

How did you get into photography?

At parties in high school... such a classic. I loved capturing people having fun, enjoying themselves, and this turned into documenting my time in the United States in College.

How would you describe your photography style?

Expressive, empowering & fun. I love to make my talent feel like a badass who is just absolutely owning the shoot - this always translates to comfort and confidence on camera

What camera do you have?

Sony a7iii

What's your fave lens (& why)?

50mm 1.2 - SO VERSATILE, quick, and super sharp

Where (or what) do you draw inspiration from?

This sounds odd but I draw inspiration from my own inspiration. Every time I have a new creative idea or try something different I get more and more inspired to push the envelope and get more uncomfortable.

Favourite photographer to follow?

Brydie Mack, Clint, Asha Bailey, Cassandra Ladrue

Favourite photo you've taken (& why)?

That's a toughie... probably a reverse focus of my boyfriend in France. It just gives me memories, feels, and creativity all at the same time

In your opinion, what makes a good photo?

Composition. I think a beautifully composed photo can be edited 100 different ways and be incredible, but if the composition is off, it takes a lot to rescue it!

What's in your camera bag? Any essential items?

Sensor cleaners are an essential! Other than that I have a 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 70-200mm, 16-24mm, lots of cards, lots of batteries, an on camera flash, cleaning cloths.

Any tips for beginner photographers?

Shoot as much as you can in as many different places, with as many different people as possible!
